Baltimore Ravens sign former exceptional Samford player
The Bears finished 7-10 and missed the NFL playoffs. However, as the Baltimore Ravens get ready to play as the top seed in the AFC playoffs, Matthew will be training with them this week.
The former star from Samford University was added to the Ravens practice squad on Tuesday, along with the release of defensive back Jeremy Lucien.
In the first four games of the 2023 Arizona Cardinals season, Matthew saw action on 83 special teams plays.
Matthew joined the Chicago practice squad two days after being released by Arizona on October 2. Throughout the rest of the season, he made two special teams appearances for the Bears.
After playing for Samford in 2018 and 2019, Matthew transferred as a graduate student to Valdosta State. He had to wait until 2021 to be named All-Gulf South Conference and assist Valdosta State to the NCAA Division II title game because the coronavirus epidemic forced the cancellation of the NCAA Division II schedule in 2020.
On April 30, 2022, the Cardinals selected Matthew in the seventh round of the NFL Draft. As a rookie, he participated in 14 games, including three starts. Matthew participated in 180 special teams plays and 235 defensive snaps in 2022.
