The Kentucky Wildcats have had trouble grabbing rebounds early in this game, which has given the Aggies some second-chance points. Every player for Texas A&M is kicking the ball out for wide-open looks and smashing the boards.
Although Texas A&M has had trouble making open shots all season, they have so far made them in this game, which has caused Kentucky to trail 46–45 at the break.
DJ Wagner, a rookie guard, was one of the reasons the Cats were able to withstand a strong first-half effort from the Texas A&M Aggies. We have talked about Wagner’s timely heating up all week, and his recent string of strong performances has carried over into this matchup with Texas A&M.
Wagner has nine points at the half, shooting 4–7 from the field. In addition to his nine points in the first half, Wagner also had two assists. Wagner was getting to the rim early in the season, but he was having trouble finishing with a basket. After reaching the rim, Wagner has finished exceptionally well in Kentucky’s first two SEC victories.
Wagner will need to perform well in the second half if Kentucky is to secure a historic victory on the road against the tenacious 9-6 Texas A&M Aggies.
