NBA Insider Reveals Latest OG Anunoby Raptors News
With a month and a half until the Feb. 8 trade deadline, rumors about Raptors star OG Anunoby continue to circulate. According to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto, the New York Knicks have been rumored as a team interested in acquiring the Toronto Raptors forward. Last season, New York had brief discussions about a deal for Anunoby involving RJ Barrett, but nothing appeared to be near, according to Scotto.
“NBA executives exploring the trade market for wings believe Toronto will do whatever it takes to keep Anunoby in free agency this summer,” he wrote.
Anunoby cannot be signed to an extension this season since his maximum extension offer is less than what he can anticipate to earn in free agency. Several teams are projected to have cap space this summer, and Toronto may pay up to $40 million per season to keep Anunoby in free agency.
It’s worth remembering that the Knicks are presently suing the Raptors for allegedly stealing confidential information from them when former Knicks employee Ike Azotam was hired by Toronto this season. The Raptors have refuted the charges.
Knicks guard Immanuel Quickley, who is in the final year of his deal, is one player that could spark Toronto’s interest. He’ll be a restricted free agency this summer since contract talks with the Knicks haven’t proceeded, according to Scotto. It’s probable that New York will try to move the 24-year-old sixth man before the trade deadline this year.
