Trade Deadline Rumors: Wizards’ Tyus Jones & Jazz’s Collin Sexton of Interest to Lakers
With less than a month until the NBA trade deadline, all eyes will be on the Los Angeles Lakers, even though the rest of the league has already seen some pyrotechnics.
In the end, the Toronto Raptors made the decision to part with Pascal Siakam, obtaining Kira Lewis from the New Orleans Pelicans along with Bruce Brown, Jordan Nwora, and three first-round selections from the Indiana Pacers. A few weeks ago, the Raptors dealt OG Anunonby to the New York Knicks, ushering in a new chapter in the history of their team.
For the second straight year, the Lakers are actively acquiring players in an effort to improve their backcourt. It’s been claimed that the Lakers are looking for a guard with quickness and speed, which is a need considering Gabe Vincent’s knee injury.
Before Wednesday’s game against the Dallas Mavericks, Dave McMenamin of ESPN reported on NBA Countdown that Los Angeles is reportedly considering Tyus Jones of the Washington Wizards and Collin Sexton of the Utah Jazz as point guards that might be dealt before the deadline:
“Tyus Jones of the Washington Wizards is a player you can definitely look at as the Lakers scout the market for point guard help.” At the age of 27, he has exceptional efficiency, scoring 52% from the field and 42% from three quarters. With his current bunch, the Wizards aren’t particularly competitive, so if the Lakers can get him now, they might be looking for some sort of future asset. He has a $14 million contract that is about to expire.
Collin Sexton is another man you should consider. 25-year-old, competitive, athletic, and with an average of roughly 17 points and 4 assists per game. More of a combo guard, but undoubtedly connected to the Lakers because LeBron James and Anthony Davis are represented by his agent Rich Paul.
Since joining the league, Jones has been a reliable backup point guard since he can handle the basketball and is a competent shooter and distributor. Sexton, on the other hand, is a sparkplug scorer who has the ability to boost two units and get his own shot. On the current Lakers roster, both players cover a few positions, so it will be interesting to see if the front management decides to trade for one of them.
