Tre’shone Devones, a cornerback for Rice, gives an account of his formal visit to Notre Dame.
Notre Dame is now registered on the spring transfer website. The team’s cornerback position has become quite depleted as a result of Benjamin Morrison’s injury and Clarence Lewis’s move. Tre’shon Devones, a former Rice standout who brings a lot of production to the table following his final season with the Owls, was a guest on Thursday.
In that 2023 campaign, Devones made 11 starts. He recorded 37 total tackles, two interceptions, and ten pass breakups in the 12 games he participated in. Although Devones had to battle with some durability issues early in his career, that was his first true breakout year.
Because of this, Devones feels even more grateful for his current situation. The 6-0, 187-pound cover man has received requests for his services from a long number of programs since he entered the portal. Every day, Devones is reminded of his good fortune.
Devones said, “God has been so good to me,” to Irish Breakdown. “He has been that way forever. I’m confident he will position me exactly where and when he pleases; it’s all in his control.
For the native of Texas, seeing Notre Dame was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. He was unable to turn it down. He was in South Bend on Thursday, and he was really impressed with the program.
“It was an amazing visit to Notre Dame,” he remarked. Everything went really well. I genuinely appreciated that they were open and honest.
A more in-depth discussion with Mike Mickens, who has established himself as one of college football’s top cornerback developers, was a part of that visit. The two had the opportunity to discuss how Devones may fit in and to share their experiences and identities.
“It’s a great guy,” Devones said. “He is extremely passionate about what he does and very knowledgeable.”
Devones has plans to visit a few additional institutions because he has received attention from other programs. He initially had a hard schedule, but he’s chosen to let things work themselves out. He will know where he is going to go next after he finds the perfect fit and completes all of his studies.
“I will also be making visits to Tulane and Houston,” he said. Additionally, I’m organizing one for the next week. At first, I had a timeline; now, I just kind of have it to God. I just informed God that it is in his hands because I like to pray about things.
