The latest USA TODAY Sports baseball coaches poll shows votes for UGA.
The USA TODAY Sports baseball coaches poll, which was released on February 26, gave the Georgia Bulldogs 23 votes, an increase from the six votes they received in the preseason. Baseball in Georgia is off to a 7-0 start. To start the season, the Bulldogs have defeated UNC Asheville and Northern Kentucky in a three-game series. Georgia also triumphed over Georgia State.
Due to his excellent start to the season, Charlie Condon, a great infielder/outfielder for Georgia, was awarded the SEC player of the week. In his first season at the head of the Athens program, head coach Wes Johnson is off to a great start. But there’s still a long way to go. Georgia has a difficult conference schedule full of opponents that are ranked.
Among the top eight teams in the nation are five from the SEC: Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Florida, Arkansas, and Texas A&M. Numerous clubs ranked in the top 25 have yet to play their first game of the season. Baseball’s hardest conference is always the SEC, and it looks like that will still be the case in 2024.Wake Forest is still the best team in the nation. In baseball, the ACC is a formidable conference as well.
Amarius Mims, an offensive tackle for Georgia, is “fully healthy” ahead of the NFL combine.
Ahead of this week’s NFL combine, one of Georgia’s top prospects in the 2024 NFL draft is allegedly healthy. According to ESPN’s Joran Reid, former UGA offensive tackle Amarius Mims is “fully healthy” and scheduled to participate in on-field drills in Indianapolis.
Following Georgia’s victory over South Carolina in Week 3, in September, Mims had TightRope surgery to repair an injured ankle. Later, in Week 11, he made a brief comeback to face Ole Miss. In the SEC Championship game loss to Alabama, Mims reinjured his ankle ailment.
If Reid’s allegation is accurate, there was worry that Mims’ injury might not have entirely healed by the time the Combine rolled around. Given that he has only started eight games for Georgia, Mims’ lack of experience is the main concern surrounding him.
Measuring six feet seven and 340 pounds, he is undoubtedly one of the draft’s most physically endowed offensive tackle prospects. The NFL staff will have a better idea of how Mims’ talent might translate to the next level if he puts up a strong showing this week. On Sunday at 3 p.m. ET on the NFL Network, Mims and the offensive lineman will go through on-field drills.
