Update: Dan Pitcher is still the front-runner to succeed Brian Callahan.
On Wednesday, the Bengals’ hunt for a new offensive coordinator will continue. On Tuesday afternoon, they had a job interview with Andy Dickerson, the former offensive line coach of the Seahawks.
There will probably be a few more interviews, but Dan Pitcher, the quarterbacks coach, has a good chance of being the Bengals’ next offensive coordinator until he impresses them with a candidate. Brian Callahan’s destiny as a head coach was known by Zac Taylor, Duke Tobin, and the rest of the team. Many predicted it would occur during the previous offseason.
Pitcher was the first candidate the Titans considered when word leaked out that they intended to name Callahan as their next head coach.
Since the Bengals selected the 37-year-old with the first overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, he has served as Joe Burrow’s quarterback coach. Like Callahan, Pitcher is a highly sought-after name in the offensive coordinator market and appeared set for a promotion this offseason.
Pitcher came very close to being the offensive coordinator for the Tampa Bay Bucs the previous season. Rather, he went back to Cincinnati. He now has the opportunity to remain with Burrow and Taylor and lead this offense into a new phase. It’s not finalized. There have been no choices made. Pitcher remains a target for a number of teams, including the Saints, Raiders, and Patriots.
