Consider San Antonio Spurs player Victor Wembanyama, who is a huge fan of Kevin Durant, if imitation is the best form of flattery.
The Phoenix Suns great has played in 17 seasons and has won two NBA championships, two Finals MVP honors, four league scoring crowns, 14 All-great selections, and a plethora of other individual accolades that any young player in the game can only aspire to. Wembanyama, who is already rapidly rising to fame, focused on a particular but nuanced technique that Durant employs to get open and said he intended to implement it in his style this summer.
Wembanyama was asked whether there was a move from another NBA player that he would want to “download” into his head during a recent interview with The Ringer.
“KD is doing something,” Wembanyama stated. I’m not sure if you’ve ever noticed, but everything he does, even when off the ball, has this one microsecond of pause that allows him to take advantage of the defense. It’s not really a hesitation because he moves so quickly. Really, he seldom ever sprints. However, he simply moves really quickly, and I refer to it as “KD timing” in all of his motions.I attempt to accomplish it, but because it’s so difficult, I’m going to work on it this summer.
In addition to his excellent Shammgod spin move and high IQ passing skills (he averaged 3.9 assists per game the previous season), Wembanyama’s offensive repertoire also includes a rapidly developing three-point shooting ability.
The 7’4″ front-runner for Rookie of the Year has already demonstrated after a spectacular season that he has the special physical attributes to go down as an all-time great. The rest of the NBA should be extremely alarmed to hear him attempt to style his game after Durant and borrow a page from the future Hall of Famer this offseason.
