There is little precedent for Draymond Green’s ‘indefinite’ suspension, Warriors star Draymond Green will miss an undetermined number of games after being ejected for the 18th time in his career.
The league announced the penalty, which was handed down by operations chief Joe Dumars, and stated that the suspension would begin immediately. Green has already been suspended twice this season.
“He will be required to meet certain league and team conditions before he returns to play,” according to the league. The National Basketball Association said that “this outcome takes into account Green’s repeated history of unsportsmanlike acts.”Green was ejected for the 18th time in his career, the most among active NBA players.
Green and Nurkic got tangled up early in the third when they were battling for position. The Golden State forward appeared to lose his balance briefly before wheeling around and slamming Nurkic in the face.
Nurkic collapsed to the ground immediately, but eventually got up and continued playing. The referees reviewed the play before ejecting Green for a Flagrant 2 foul.”That had nothing to do with basketball,” Nurkic insisted. “I’m just out there trying to play basketball.”Green has been suspended by the NBA for five games after putting Minnesota’s Rudy Gobert in a headlock during an altercation in November.
An indefinite suspension has little precedent. Washington guard Gilbert Arenas was suspended indefinitely by then-Commissioner David Stern in 2010 for bringing firearms into the team locker room. Arenas received a 50-game suspension after Stern stated that “his ongoing conduct… led me to conclude that he is not currently fit to take the court in an NBA game.”
