Warriors Trade Rumor: Can the Mavericks Gain from “Everyone But Steph Curry”?
Three weeks remain until the NBA trade deadline, and teams from all around the league will undoubtedly be busy making decisions about possible transactions. The Dallas Mavericks have been linked to Jerami Grant of the Portland Trail Blazers, Pascal Siakam of the Toronto Raptors, and other players, but what if the Golden State Warriors were to supply them with an improvement at power forward? Shams Charania of The Athletic reports that the Warriors may be on the verge of dismantling the core that brought them four titles in eight years. All of the Warriors players, excluding Steph Curry, seem to be available for a trade before the deadline on February 8.
“The mindset in Golden State right now is everyone but Steph Curry is on the table,” Charania stated.
You might question, why could this be important. A month prior, the Mavs were considered the favorite in the betting odds to acquire Draymond Green in the event that the Warriors choose to trade him. Even though betting odds aren’t always reliable, it’s still something to consider as the deadline approaches. Green, who will earn a total of $76.6 million over the next three seasons, is 33 years old, has served two suspensions this season, and is tough. But, the Mavs could truly benefit from his versatile skill set and toughness if they want to go from being a fun potential playoff team to actual contenders.Risks would accompany trading for Green because his greatest years are likely behind him and there’s no assurance his on-court antics won’t continue. For that reason, Dallas, if they would even want the four-time NBA champion, probably wouldn’t want to part with too much.
In addition, Green’s positive ties with Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic may also be taken into account if Dallas is a viable option for him. In the many events that may transpire between now and February 8th, the Mavs and Warriors are undoubtedly teams to watch.
