The rugby director for South Africa sustains chemical burns in a “freak accident.”
South African Rugby released a statement on Saturday stating that Erasmus, who was burned in an unusual incident involving a powerful detergent solution, is “recovering in hospital following a medical procedure.”
“He is otherwise in good health and expects to return to full-time work within weeks. “The New York Post reports that Erasmus is anticipated to serve as the team’s coach as it gets ready for the 2027 World Cup. When South Africa won its third World Cup in 2019, he was their coach.
Before the 2023 competition, Erasmus assumed the position of director. Under his direction, South Africa won another World Cup. Jacques Nienaber took over as coach. Nienaber left South African rugby to take a coaching position with Leinster in Ireland.
The Springboks won’t play until July 20. First, they’ll play a two-game series against Ireland in Bloemfontein before taking on Portugal.”We are delighted that we will be returning to Bloemfontein for this historic match, and we are determined to continue making our passionate supporters proud,” Erasmus said in a statement issued on Friday.
“With the venue now confirmed, we can go full steam ahead with our planning for the home tests from an operational perspective. “Undoubtedly, winning the Rugby World Cup title at the end of 2023 elevated hopes for the subsequent year.”
