Veteran starter might be a trade target for the Baltimore Orioles at the deadline.
Injuries to two of their starters placed pressure on Mike Elias and his front office to find an impact player to help them win a World Series, but he also dislikes shipping off his top prospects and may play it safe.
While both ideas are possible, there may be a happy medium. According to Jon Heyman of The New York Post, the Orioles may consider acquiring Tyler Anderson from the Los Angeles Angels at the deadline to strengthen their rotation.
The veteran has had a tremendous season so far, with a 2.63 ERA through 13 starts, and while still being under contract until 2025, he may not cost much to acquire given his age and previous performance.
At 34 years old, he’s had a fine career, but nothing that suggests Baltimore needs to trade some of its top prospects.
If they believe the asking costs for other top arms who may become available are too high, Anderson might be the option they choose at the deadline.
He fits the profile that Elias and the Orioles have sought in the past when bringing in older arms to fill innings at the bottom of their rotation.
Anderson would most likely fit into that role if he is acquired by Baltimore, as he could amass innings during the regular season and then perhaps shift to the bullpen when the rotation shrinks for the playoffs. They already have Corbin Burnes, Kyle Bradish, and Grayson Rodriguez, which gives them that ability.
