Through the transfer portal, Miami Hurricanes acquire FCS’s most prolific quarterback.
Poffenbarger, who led Football Championship Subdivision in passing yards (3,603) and touchdowns (36) this season, will have competition for Miami’s starting quarterback position following Tyler Van Dyke’s move to Wisconsin.
“We accomplished a lot of special things, and Albany will always hold a special place in my heart,” Poffenbarger said to ESPN on Monday. “In the end, I felt it was time to move on and do what I could to position myself to contend for a national championship and possibly play in the NFL in the future.”
The 6-foot-208-pound Poffenbarger, who transferred from Old Dominion to Albany in 2022, has two more seasons remaining on his eligibility. The FCS had its own national championship and was once known as Division I-AA. To win the FCS championship, South Dakota State defeated Montana 23โ3 on Sunday.
Miami lost out on former Kansas State quarterback Will Howard, who transferred to Ohio State, and Cam Ward of Washington State, who decided to enter the NFL draft.
Jacurri Brown and Emory Williams, two scholarship quarterbacks, as well as true freshman Judd Anderson make up the Hurricanes’ quarterback position.
In the 2022 Pinstripe Bowl and during his opportunities, Brown displayed glimpses of his potential. Williams labored against FSU before sustaining an arm injury that ended his season. He looked good against Clemson. Despite not being a highly regarded prospect, Anderson had a strong senior year at Warner Robbins High School (Ga.) with respectable stats.
